Whole body pain reason
56 year old man. Complains of pain of muscles and joints all over body, back, knees, shoulders, sleeps very badly (no more than 4 hours), as he said: "Whole body pain". Condition has especially worsened over the last 4-5 years.
Objective examination: the patient is slouching, all movements are heavy and stiff. The volume of movements in the neck, shoulders, knees is sharply restricted, elastic (muscular) limitation. On palpation most of the muscles are painful, the most problematic ones cause characteristic referred pain. In the thoracic spine, which the patient complains of pain in the most, the peravertebral muscles are tense and sharply painful when pressed, the vertebrae corresponding to them are blocked and do not move. In the knees, the second most important complaint, flexion is less than 40°, muscular limitation associated with pain along the anterior surface of the thigh (quadriceps muscles).
Diagnosis: multiple myofascial pain dysfunctions, mobility disorders, joint and spinal-motor segments caused by them, condition similar to fibromyalgia.
Treatment: neuromuscular therapy of the periosternal muscles, back, neck, myofascial release of the neck, cervicothoracic region, postisometric relaxation of leg muscles, prescription of magnesium, B-group vitamins (for normalization of metabolic processes in muscles, decrease of tension).
☛ Neuromuscular treatment - NMT therapy
Results: after the second session slow but steady improvement of condition, after seven sessions habitual pains in back disappeared, patient gets up and down the stairs much easier, and what especially pleased the patient - deep sleep (8 hours).
Pain of many muscles. Conclusions.
The patient's condition could be characterized as invalid - every movement is painful, periodically almost every part of the body hurts, even at night there is no respite, the morning of each new day begins with fatigue and pain. And the main cause of this condition is such an "unimportant" problem as a muscle disorder and more specifically myofascial pain syndrome of many muscles, which cannot but affect the pain in the joints in the chronic course as well. The disorder is in the vast majority of cases unknown, unnoticed or not understood by neurologists and other specialists. Let me remind you that myofascial syndrome is neither inflammation nor spasm, so the chances of accidentally treating it with medication therapy or other standard methods are close to zero.
